Babusar Pass


Babusar Pass is a high mountain pass at an elevation of 4.173m (13,691ft) above sea level. The pass is the highest point in the Kaghan Valley, Pakistan. The pass connects the Kaghan Valley via the Thak Nala with Chilas on the Karakoram Highway. It’s one of the famous hairpinned roads in the world.

 

The road to the summit was recently asphalted. Due to the unavailability of necessary facilities, one should take eatables and necessary items with them. Babusar Pass is at a distance of 80 km from Naran. It is on the way to the pass that the Kaghan valley scenery becomes most dramatic. Battakundi is at a distance of 16 km from Naran and provides access to Lalazar Plateau, lake Dodiputsar and lake Lulusar, which is the biggest natural lake in Hazara and the source of Kunhar river. The road is wide and useable for all kinds of vehicles. The area has been a famous tourist spot over the years with a number of attractions nearby.


How to Travel to Babusar Pass?

Babusar Pass is a high mountain pass in the Kaghan Valley of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. It is located at an elevation of 4,173 meters (13,691 ft) above sea level. The pass provides a route from the Indus River Valley to the Kaghan Valley and provides a link between the Kashmir and Hazara regions of Pakistan. The road through Babusar Pass is open only during the summer months, from June to October.

To travel to Babusar Pass, take the Karakoram Highway (N5) north from Islamabad to Abbotabad. From there, take the Indus Highway (N35) west to Naran. From Naran, take the Babusar Top Road north to the pass. The road through Babusar Pass is gravel and is not suitable for all vehicles. There are several restaurants and hotels located along the road at the top of the pass.

Babusar Pass is a popular tourist destination, offering stunning views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. Hiking and camping are popular activities in the area. There are also several glaciers in the area that can be explored.

 

Best time to visit Babusar Pass?

From the mid of June up to the end of September, the road beyond Naran is open right up to Babusar Pass. However, movement is restricted during the monsoon and winter seasons, but it can be closed anytime when the access is not cleared of snow. The Kaghan Valley is at its best during summer (months ranging from May to September). In May, the maximum temperature is 11 C (52 F) and the minimum temperature is 3 C (37 F).Check weather forecasts before leaving home, and remember that it becomes cooler and often more prone to storms at higher elevations.
