Khunjerab Pass, Known as China Border

Khunjerab Pass is a high mountain pass in the Karakoram Mountains, on the border of Pakistan and China. It is the highest paved international border crossing in the world. The Khunjerab Pass features an asphalt road that crosses a 4,693-meter-high (15,397 ft) saddle between two mountains, Hispar Muztagh and K1 Muztagh. The road was completed in 1982 as part of the Karakoram Highway. A bus service operates between Gilgit and Kashgar, stopping at Sust Bazaar near the Chinese customs checkpoint. Travelers must have a visa to enter Pakistan from China or vice versa.

Scenery Around Khujerab Pass:

The scenery around the Khunjerab Pass is incredible, with towering mountains all around. The pass itself is a relatively simple affair, and once you have your passport stamped (be sure to get an exit stamp from Pakistan too!) then it's simply a case of driving through.

Things to Keep in Mind visiting the Pass:

There are a few things to be aware of when driving through the Khunjerab Pass.

Firstly, the road is in reasonably good condition, but it is still a mountain road, so take it slowly and be prepared for some hairpin bends.

Secondly, at this altitude there is less oxygen in the air, so if you start to feel dizzy or lightheaded then just stop and take a few deep breaths.

Finally, remember that you are now in China, so be sure to have your visa sorted before you reach the border!

All in all, the Khunjerab Pass is an amazing place and a great way to enter (or leave!) China. Just be prepared for the altitude and you'll be fine. Enjoy your time in this beautiful country!

Katpana Desert, Cold Desert of Pakistan

The world's highest desert, Katapana Desert, is in Skardu, Gilgit Baltistan. The name of the chilly desert has been given to the high sand dunes of Katpana because of their cold nature. The topography becomes increasingly beautiful from West Pakistan to North, with the hues of lush plantations, enormous mountains, rocky plains, flowing, curved streams, waterfalls, overcast skies, and picturesque settings.

This combination is extremely unusual to find in other countries, but it's still anticipated. What could possibly be unexpected about that? It's a sight only found in Pakistan.

Weather at Katpana Desert:

Its weather, like the rest of this unique desert, is extremely distinctive. This beautiful icy desert has stunningly chilly nights and barren vistas that urge visitors to come see it. It is recognized as the world's greatest desert to visit.

It also has thick vegetation and a beautiful grove. In October, the average temperature is 8°C to 26°C, which drops to -10°C in January.

How to get there?

There are two options for getting to Skardu. By road or even air, the airport is now operational, so you may go there by both methods. Now a days buses are also operational as the road conditions are good. If you really want to appreciate the beauty of this location and the stunning views you'll see on your journey, we recommend traveling by road. It will take almost two days to get to Skardu, but these days will be etched in your memory for the rest of your life. The routes are absolutely stunning and pleasant to walk.

When to visit?

Visit Skardu in the summer rather than during the winter season to take in each and every splendor. It will protect you from severe weather conditions and the inability to explore all of your destinations.
